IR Survey

About this Survey

This IR Survey has been developed by the AAU (Association of African Universities) and KIT (Royal Tropical Institute) to gather data among African Universities for establishing a first baseline overview on the current use of institutional repositories in their libraries. The results of this Survey will provide insight in the overall readiness, as well as priorities and needs of libraries for using (open access) institutional repositories. The results will also serve as input for a KIT Working Paper on institutional repositories.

Structure and Audiences

The Survey consists of two parts, namely: institutional repository questions, and general library questions. The survey should ideally be completed by the librarian (of the university’s central library) and where an institutional repository is applicable, with the assistance of the repository manager.

How to complete the survey

Ideally the survey is completed online.

In preparation for completing the survey online, a printable version is also available.

Should respondents for technical reasons not be able to complete the survey online the are kindly adviced to contact us as we can provide further guidance.

Notes on completing the survey

Please note that all questions are compulsory and need a reply. This is to ensure that we yield a consistent and homogeous dataset. Should you not be able to answer a question please use the "additional comments" box.

As for the length of the survey, depending on your situation (whether you have, do not have but are considering or not) there are 5-6 questions on institutional repository plans or operations. In addition there are 4 additional questions on your library. So the entire survey is not more than 11 questions, and can in principle be completed in 25-30 minutes.

Please note that should you not wish to complete this survey because your library does not have an interest in institutional repositories, we kindly ask you to then only complete the questions 1, 2 and 3 followed by your contact information (final 3 questions). The survey will automatically guide you to these and skip the repository related questions. In the case you do not wish to answer these questions please contact a.bwamkuu@kit.nl.
